5 Things To Do — Winter Break Edition

The Newton Cultural Alliance highlights our member events happening around Newton this week. Have a joyous holiday season!

 

*Newton Art Association and NewTV present an Opening Reception for Winter: A Small Works Exhibit on tonight, Wednesday, December 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the NewTV studio, 23 Needham Street, Newton. Come see the select, diminutive artworks of Newton Art Association members on display at NewTV at the opening reception. Meet the artists, discuss the challenge of small artworks, and enjoy refreshments. FREE and open to the public. More info at newtv.org and newtonartassociation.com.

*Newton Free Library presents Find Happiness through Mindfulness, Yoga & Meditation on Thursday, December 19, at 7:15 p.m. 330 Homer Street, Newton. Come experience ancient practices of breathing and meditation in an informal setting. Discover secrets to increasing happiness in everyday life and learn ways to make it grow each day. Patrons age 14 and older are welcome to join. Yoga mats are optional. FREE and open to the public. More info at newtonfreelibrary.net.

*The Scandinavian Cultural Center presents the film The Guilty on Saturday, December 21, at 1:30 p.m. in their library at 206 Waltham Street, West Newton. Admission is FREE; $5 suggested donation. Refreshments for attendees are served at 1:00 p.m. Lunch (not included) is available in the Kaffestugan, which is open until 3:00 p.m. More info at scandicenter.org.

*Zamir Chorale of Boston presents Hanukkah Happens: Zamir on the Lighter Side on Tuesday, December 24, at 7:30 p.m. at Temple Emmanuel, 385 Ward Street, Newton. Join Zamir and guest soloist  Cantor Elias Rosemberg for this special annual concert, featuring songs for the holiday (both serious and funny), works by Frank Loesser and Kurt Weill, parody songs by Allan Sherman and the American-Israeli Jewish rock band Schlock Rock, as well as Israeli, Yiddish, and Ladino songs. *NewTV presents its Field Production Orientation on Monday, December 30, at 7:00 p.m. at the NewTV studio, 23 Needham Street, Newton. NewTV’s Field Production Orientation is perfect for those who are interested in learning new gear, documentary filmmaking, and/or event coverage. Free with membership; membership starts at $25.
