*Join The New Art Center for an artist talk on Friday, December 3rd at 6:00 p.m. with Anthony Romero and Çaca Yvaire. Romero is a Boston-based artist, writer, and organizer committed to documenting and supporting artists and communities of color. Yvaire is an Afro-Indigenous territorial scholar-practitioner and student of planetary science, political geoecology, and the arts. *It’s finally here! This Sunday, December 5th from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. the Newton Cultural Alliance presents the Celebrate Newton Holiday Craft Fair. Come stroll the well-ventilated cafeteria of Newton South High School while you shop from up to 50 local vendors selling handmade items including jewelry, textiles, ceramics, woodwork, and fine art. Admission is $5, kids under 12 free. Masks are required to attend. Proof of vaccination for ages 12 and older is required at the door. Showing proof of vaccination can be the original card, a photocopy, or a picture on a cell phone. Come ‘Celebrate Newton’ with us.
*On Sunday, December 5th at 2:00 p.m. the Newton Art Association presents a virtual demonstration on Turner’s Watercolors with Jason Skill. Turner was an innovator. His approach to handling watercolor was radically different from many of his contemporaries. Far from being a watercolor purist, he often used unconventional materials and constantly reinvented his approach. For those who love this artist’s work and have some experience with watercolor, this demo will offer a practical eye-opening glimpse into the great master’s working methods. Join Jason to reinvent yourself with Turner.
*Join the Highland Glee Club Sunday, December 5th at 3:00 p.m. for A Holiday Songfest. Selections for Christmas and Chanukkah feature traditional favorites from Gregorian Chant to Jazz, Frans Schubert to Irving Berlin. And of course, the Highland Glee Club songfest isn’t complete without a sing-a-long. Holiday fun for the whole family with ample free parking across the street. *The Newton Free Library invites you to apply to Exhibit Your Art in their two galleries. Proposals are currently being accepted for April – December 2022 exhibits and are due by Friday, December 10th at 11:59 p.m. As one of the busiest public library buildings in Massachusetts, the galleries are highly sought after and well-loved by library patrons. Applications are welcomed from any artist in the New England region showing two-dimensional works. Apply here to Exhibit Your Art at the library!
