*Historic Newton presents Meet the Makers on Sunday, December 1, from 10:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. at both the Jackson Homestead & Museum, 527 Washington Street, Newton, and the Durant-Kenrick House & Grounds, 286 Waverley Avenue, Newton. Get a head start on your holiday shopping and support arts and culture in Newton at both of Historic Newton’s museums! Meet Newton artists and authors, purchase work directly from them, and enjoy a 20% discount on merchandise at the museum shops. At the Durant-Kenrick House from 10:30 a.m. to noon, enjoy “Art, Spirituality and The Power of Creativity,” an inclusive discussion with Newton artists and authors about the spiritual tones that often guide their creativity, presented with NewCity Church. *Newton Free Library presents Boston Artists Ensemble on Sunday, December 1, at 2:00 p.m. in their Druker Auditorium, 330 Homer Street, Newton. Jonathan Miller, cello, and Marc Ryser, piano, will perform works by Einojuhani Rautavvara and Gabriel Faure. FREE and open to the public. More info at newtonfreelibrary.net.

*Highland Glee Club presents its Winter Concert on Sunday, December 1, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 858 Great Plain Avenue, Needham. Highland Glee Club will perform various works by composers, including Franz Schubert, Jacob Handl, Francis Poulenc, as well as a selection of holiday classics. The concert will also feature a set of music performed by special guest artist mezzo-soprano Hailey McAvoy. Tickets are $20 for adults, children 18 and under free. *Zamir Chorale of Boston presents Back to Berlin: Tour Prelude Concert on Wednesday, December 4, at 8:00 p.m. at the Lindsey Chapel, Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston. Join Newton’s Zamir Chorale for their Berlin Tour Prelude Concert, co-sponsored by the Central Reform Temple. The concert will feature music that Zamir will perform at the Louis Lewandowski Festival in Berlin later in the month. The focus of the Festival is the music of 19th-century Munich synagogue composers Israel Meyer Japhet, Max Löwenstamm, Meier Kohn, and Emanuel Kirschner. Also on the program will be modern American compositions, representing our home country. Tickets are $15 and seating is limited! More info at zamir.org.

*The First Church in Chestnut Hill presents Second Annual Messiah Sing and Open House on Thursday, December 5, at 6:00 p.m. at 26 Suffolk Road, Chestnut Hill. Join First Church in Chestnut Hill for its Second Annual Messiah Sing and Open House, featuring the First Church Quartet with Kathryn Rosenbach, piano. Enjoy coffee, cookies, and singing!
