DESCRIPTION:The SCC are pleased to be co-presenters for the International Shorts 2021 being presented as part of Wicked Queer\, the 37th Annual LBGTQ+ Film Festival being shown virtually between April 1st through April 30th. \nFeaturing international films by a selection of new talents\, this year’s lineup includes lyrical works from Spain\, a surreal Norwegian comedy\, and a bittersweet story from Belgium. Curated by Giuseppe Di Caprio. \nIncluded is The Corner (2021). Tired of waiting\, Veronika tries to give her girlfriend direction over the phone\, but Susan gets more and more confused with every word. The Corner is a 5-minute-long\, one-shot-film\, and it’s a story about communication and the sense (or non-sense) of direction.) \nDirected by Ida Hansen Eldøen | 2020 | 5 min | Norway | in Norwegian with English subtitles \nSee the full list of shorts here. \nThursday\, April 1st – Friday\, April 30th | on xerb.tv | $10 | purchase tickets here

SUMMARY:Newton Free Library presents: Race and Climate Justice with Iván Espinosa-Madrigal
DESCRIPTION:This program is brought to you in partnership with the Burlington Public Library’s Social Justice Series\, the collaborative efforts of Libraries Working Towards Social Justice and is cosponsored by Green Newton. Please register here. \nThe intersection of race and environmental discrimination has become more apparent during the pandemic given that low-income communities of color\, and immigrant communities\, are disproportionately affected. Climate change is an additional factor that harms these neighborhoods\, creating climate refugees. Meanwhile\, the ‘green economy’ is providing a means for individuals to address climate disparities as well as to benefit from the economic opportunities presented by this growing industry. Join Iván Espinoza-Madrigal\, Esq.\, Executive Director of Lawyers for Civil Rights\, for a discussion of these challenges and how organizations are seeking to address them. \nRegistration for this program will remain open up until the event starts. The Zoom login information is sent automatically once registration is complete\, and then again one day\, and one hour before the session starts. Please be sure to check your spam folder in case it lands there.
