SUMMARY:New Art Center presents: Artist Talk with Rébecca Bourgault
DESCRIPTION:Details: Friday\, 1 Session\nTimes: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM \nRébecca Bourgault is a visual artist\, art educator\, community artist\, and scholar. An assistant professor of Art Education at Boston University\, Bourgault grew up in rural Québec surrounded by artists and artisans. Humorously self-identified as a late bloomer\, Bourgault traveled around the world in her youth\, studying visual arts\, and completing an MFA later\, in her thirties. She exhibited and taught sculpture and drawing at art colleges in Canada\, before moving to New York City for doctoral studies in Art Education at Columbia University. Bourgault’s artistic and scholarly research has been presented in the US and internationally. She published in edited volumes such as the Wiley Blackwell International Encyclopedia of Art and Design (2019) and Art as an agent of Social Change (2020). Recent articles appeared in the International Journal of Education & the Arts\, the Journal of Curriculum and Pedagogy\, and the International Journal of Lifelong Learning in Art Education. \nHer research interests include community arts as it overlaps with social justice issues\, socially engaged art practices\, quiet activism\, and arts-based research pedagogies. Bourgault maintains a multimodal artistic practice that blends visual\, aural and written art forms.
