SUMMARY:New Art Center presents: Artist Talk with Sophy Tuttle
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Zoom for our winter Artist Talk Series featuring contemporary artists whose work examines climate and the environment. \nSophy Tuttle is an interdisciplinary artist based in Lowell\, MA. Her work is focused on the natural world\, our place in it\, and the conflicts and collaborations we find ourselves in everyday with nature. Her science-based murals and paintings use natural imagery to bring humans closer to their wild neighbors and highlight important environmental and social justice issues. \nIn this lecture\, Sophy will speak about her work as a muralist and installation artist\, as well as about other artists who are working with the same themes of nature\, research\, and environmental activism within art. \nClick here for more information.

SUMMARY:Newton Free Library presents: 'Legacy of Love' virtual screening
DESCRIPTION:Join Writer\, Producer and Director\, Roberto Mighty\, for a virtual screening of his new documentary\, Legacy of Love\, as recently seen on WGBH-TV. The film\, hosted by EMMY award winning newscaster and Pastor Reverend Liz Walker\, reveals the mostly unknown story of Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott’s formative years in 1950’s Boston – where they met as students\, fell in love\, and started on the road to becoming worldwide leaders and iconic symbols for the rights of oppressed people all over the world. The half hour documentary also highlights the influence of Coretta Scott’s leftist politics on their mutual trajectories. Taking stylistic cues from narrative filmmaking\, this documentary explores their romantic relationship and their dreams for a life of activism and family. In terms of storytelling\, Legacy of Love utilizes living witnesses\, historical dramatizations\, music and original illustrations. \nA Q and A with Mr. Mighty will follow. Cosponsored by the Newton Human Rights Commission. \nThe Zoom login information will be sent the afternoon of the program. Registration closes two hours prior to the event start time. \n
