During his time as a reporter with the Los Angeles Times and editorial editor with the Sacramento Bee\, Morain covered Kamala Harris’s rise to power as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County to District Attorney to California Attorney General to U.S. Senator to the first Black\, South Asian and female Vice President in our country’s history. Learn how the daughter of two immigrants of color in segregated California became one of America’s most effective power players. Morain will be joined in conversation by Liz Goodwin\, deputy bureau chief for The Boston Globe in Washington\, DC. \nIf you’d like to borrow the book from the library you can reserve it here. \nAutographed copies of Kamala’s Way will be available for sale before and during the event from our bookstore partner Wellesley Books. DESCRIPTION:As part of the 6th Annual Newton Festival of the Arts\, enjoy a concert from Newton Baroque. \nNewton Baroque took a spectacular leap onto the national stage in May 2014 when they performed three exciting innovative programs as a featured ensemble at the American Bach Society annual convention at Kenyon College in Ohio\, garnering an overwhelming response from some of the most knowledgeable Bach scholars in the world. \nDepending on the requirements of the chosen repertoire\, Newton Baroque draws on its roster of musicians who work frequently with the group\, comprising some of the leading Baroque specialists both nationally and internationally. They have also appeared numerous times on Boston’s SoHIP concert series\, on WGBH Radio\, Boston\, and on various concert series in New York City. Newton Baroque is a recipient of NCC grants.

SUMMARY:Newton Art Association presents: Demo with Marjorie Kaye | Sculptural Painting
DESCRIPTION:Marjorie Kaye has lived in the Boston area for most of her life\, with stops along the way in Syracuse\, NY to earn her BFA in Painting\, as well as New York City in the 80s. \nShe is a painter and sculptor. Her work has been an exploration of opposites: form and color; organic and geometric; precision and chaos. Colorful and bold\, her gouache paintings and sculptures are kinetic and energetic. Her work has been reviewed in many publications including the Boston Globe and ArtScope Magazine and has been shown extensively both locally and nationally\, including galleries such as Galatea Fine Art in Boston\, Atlantic Works Gallery in East Boston\, Harbor Gallery\, UMass Boston\, and the Walter Wickiser Gallery in NYC. She was a 2016 winner of the Lillian Orlowsky/William Freed Foundation Grant from the Provincetown Art Association and Museum and was included in a group exhibition in their galleries. Also\, Ms. Kaye was named a finalist in the Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship Awards in Painting. \nKaye is the founder of Galatea Fine Art in Boston\, MA\, a large artist-run gallery featuring over 39 artists from Boston and beyond. She was the director of that space from 2009 – 2017\, as well as the owner. The gallery has transitioned into a non-profit and Ms. Kaye is remaining as Director. Some past projects also include the web-based Caladan Gallery\, which ran for 10 years and exhibited hundreds of artists from all over the world\, and the Lawrence\, MA Gallery 181\, which enhanced the community with the exhibition of local\, national\, and international artists. \nThe Zoom link is found here.
