The Festival will be a two-day event held in partnership with the Hyde Community Center at the Hyde Playground in Newton Highlands. The Festival of the Arts will kick off on Friday\, July 21st at 6:30 pm with a Pops-style concert by the New Philharmonia Orchestra.\nOn Saturday\, July 22nd\, NCP will be hosting 10+ performances on 2 alternating stages all day at the Hyde Playground from Noon to 8:00 pm. \nThere will be something for everyone to enjoy – musical performances\, visual arts\, vendor/craft booths\, and more! All festival performances are free and open for all to enjoy. \nThe Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts has been a showcase of Newton and regional talent for years and NCP is excited to once again bring a summer weekend of music and family-friendly entertainment. DESCRIPTION:THE AURORA ENSEMBLE: MIDNIGHT SUN\n\nThe Aurora Ensemble brings a world premiere performance to our Nordic Hall titled Midnight Sun with Arias and Dance Music from Old Scandinavia! \nJoin the SCC for a magical and fantastical mid-summer themed program of Scandinavian music performed on historical instruments from the 16th\, 17th\, and 18th centuries. The program will feature a variety of composers and pieces from Sweden\, Finland\, Norway\, and Denmark. Most excitingly\, in collaboration with Bo Andersson of the Uppsala Universitet\, the Aurora Ensemble will perform the new world premieres of several stunning pieces housed in the Düben Collection of Manuscripts in Uppsala\, Sweden\, including instrumental dance pieces by Andras Düben\, a cantata by Swedish noblewoman Johanna Eleonora de la Gardie\, and the only surviving piece composed by Queen Ulrika Eleonora of Sweden. \nJoin SCC at Nordic Hall on August 19 to be a part of this historical event! \nSaturday\, August 19th\, 2023 | 7pm  | $20 suggested donation per person | register

SUMMARY:Newton Community Chorus Auditions
DESCRIPTION:The Newton Community Chorus begins it’s 42nd season on September 11\, 2023.\nCome sing with the chorus that’s been a Newton tradition for 42 years. We’re beginning our rehearsals on Monday\, September 11th at 7:00 PM. This winter we’ll perform Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Mozart’s Vespers de Solennes. Our chorus sings the finest in choral music led by our Music Director Richard Travers; our concerts usually feature guest soloists and orchestra. Our winter concert will be held on January 20\, 2024 at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton Corner.\nOur auditions are simple–come to a rehearsal on September 11\, 18 or 25th and sing with us. After rehearsal (around 8:30)\, you’ll individually sing a few bars from the music we sang earlier that evening for our Music Director Richard Travers and a few members. If you can match pitch and can follow along\, it’s easy.
