SUMMARY:Newton Community Chorus Auditions
DESCRIPTION:The Newton Community Chorus begins it’s 42nd season on September 11\, 2023.\nCome sing with the chorus that’s been a Newton tradition for 42 years. We’re beginning our rehearsals on Monday\, September 11th at 7:00 PM. This winter we’ll perform Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Mozart’s Vespers de Solennes. Our chorus sings the finest in choral music led by our Music Director Richard Travers; our concerts usually feature guest soloists and orchestra. Our winter concert will be held on January 20\, 2024 at Grace Episcopal Church in Newton Corner.\nOur auditions are simple–come to a rehearsal on September 11\, 18 or 25th and sing with us. After rehearsal (around 8:30)\, you’ll individually sing a few bars from the music we sang earlier that evening for our Music Director Richard Travers and a few members. If you can match pitch and can follow along\, it’s easy. Our rehearsals are held at the Newton Country Day School\, 785 Centre St.\, Newton.\nFor more info\, see our website at https://www.newtoncommunitychorus.org/ or Co-President Jim Ball at mijllab@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Memorial Concert for Leslie Parnas
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends\, \nWe cordially invite you to celebrate and remember our dad\, the world-renowned cellist\, Leslie Parnas. \nPlease join us for an evening of music\, stories and a short video celebrating the life and career of Leslie on September 28 in Boston\, where he lived and taught for 50 years\, or on September 30\, in New York City\, where so many musical connections and life-long friendships were made. \nCicely Parnas\, Leslie’s granddaughter\, will honor the evening by playing Leslie’s cello in a recital deeply connected to his musical legacy. We are thrilled that Cicely will be joined by the celebrated pianist\, Arsentiy Kharitonov. Leslie played his cello every day since 1956\, and now it has been beautifully restored and still resonates with Leslie’s voice and unique sound. \nWe would be honored by your presence at either or both of these events: \n\n\n\nThursday\, September 28\, 2023\, at 7:00 pm\, The Allen Center\, 35 Webster St.\, Newton MA\nSaturday\, September 30\, 2023\, at 4:00 pm\, Rose Studio at CMS (Lincoln Center)\,165 W. 65th St.\, (10th floor)\, New York\, NY\n\n\n\nFamily\, significant others\, friends\, all are welcome! \nGratefully\, \nMarcel and JP Parnas

SUMMARY:Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra presents Classical Lines
DESCRIPTION:Classical Lines\nSunday\, October 29\, 2023 3pm\nMischa Santora\, conductor & Tommy Mesa\, cello \nPro Arte opens its season in dramatic fashion with conductor Mischa Santora\, Music Director of Boston Ballet\, and Cuban-American cellist Tommy Mesa. In Jessie Montgomery’s Divided\, which Mesa premiered in 2022\, a solo cello gives expressive voice to the unsettled individual living in a conflicted society. Camille Saint-Saëns\, by casting his dynamic first cello concerto as a single movement\, leads the listener on a seamless journey by turns stormy and refined. The concert concludes with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor\, a work well loved for its intense emotional energy.

SUMMARY:Commonwealth Chorale Presents "Fate and Faith"
DESCRIPTION:In March\, we explore fate and faith through the richly expressive music of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s Lobgesang\, Johannes Brahms’s Schicksalslied\, and Felix\nMendelssohn’s Psalm 42. \nThe concert will be with Professional Orchestra.\nDana Lynne Varga\, Soprano Soloist\nConducted by Artistic Director Dr. Michael Driscoll \nGeneral Admission $40; Students $10; EBT/WIC Cards- Free at Door\nOpen Seating – Purchase tickets online at: https://events.humanitix.com/test-event-n66hoxj7\nmarketing@CommonwealthChorale.com 617-527-7464 \nABOUT THE CONCERT\nChoral music of the 19th century is well known for its melodic\, romantic and expressive elements\, often exploring themes of faith and fate. Our March concert provides a delicious feast from two of this period’s best known composers\, Johannes Brahms and Felix Mendelssohn\, and a third\, Fanny Mendelsshohn Hensel\, who but for the social mores of her day\, would likely be as well known. \nTo celebrate her son’s birth\, Hensel wrote Lobgesang using biblical texts to create a choral symphony celebrating spirituality and praising life. Given the hazards of child-birth in her time\, perhaps Hensel’s music also celebrates trust in fate and a leap of faith! Brahms’ much loved Schicksalslied is an elegant choral setting of a poem with the same name (Song of Destiny); it\, too\, explores the joys of human existence and the cruel whims of fate. Mendelssohn’s Psalm 42 provides vivid visual and sensual imagery of a stag or deer\, likening its desire for fresh water to the soul’s need for God and encouraging the reader to have faith that God will provide. \nWhatever your religious or theological beliefs\, the rich harmonic textures\, expressive melodies\, and meticulous craftsmanship of these compositions\, with their balance of classical form and romantic sentiment\, will lift your spirits and feed your soul!
