Registration opens each Monday for the weekend classes! Click here for more information. \nEx Tempore Playing: A Gateway to Early Medieval Improvisation with Norbert Rodenkirchen\nSurviving information about Medieval instrumental improvisation practice is rare and fragmentary. Based on a combination of intensive source studies and a personalized approach to Medieval monodic improvisation Norbert Rodenkirchen – Sequentia´s flautist – offers a practical workshop on „ad hoc“ modal invention. Besides presenting some easy new exercises Norbert will also introduce selected original didactical tools from Medieval cathedral schools. We will try out original modal patterns and memorization formulae from the 11th to 13th century to find a fresh and profound way to invent our own estampies and ductiae\, just like students in Medieval times. All musical materials will be presented in easy\, modern notation. The aim will be to explore our own melodic inventions deriving from these notes\, not just to play what is written. Open to: all instrumentalists are invited to join the workshop\, actively or as auditors. The content is geared toward players with a high level of facility on their instrument. Pitch: A = 440. Tuning: Norbert will be using Pythagorean tuning\, which has wide thirds and pure fifths. Participants will be muted but may wish to adjust their tuning since they will hear Norbert while playing.

Registration opens each Monday for the weekend classes! Click here for more information. \nIn Nomine: The Viol PLayer’s Favorite Chant with Rosamund Morley\nThe foundation of a uniquely English consort form is a beautiful chant melody hidden in the “Benedictus” movement of a 6-part Taverner mass. For 150 years\, from Taverner to Purcell\, many English composers wrote beautiful polyphonic music based on this chant. In this class\, less experienced viol players will have a chance to use the lovely In Nomine chant tune as the basis for a series of exercises applicable to all sizes of viol\, and\, technology permitting\, will experience the joys of playing the In Nomine line in a consort piece or two! Geared to: the fairly new viol player\, but all viols are welcome to join! Pitch: A=415.

SUMMARY:Pro Arte's Fall Salon Series: Salon 2
DESCRIPTION:The Fall Salon Series takes place entirely online. Each of these six concerts premieres at 8pm on Thursday night and will be available to watch through the following Sunday. On the night of the premiere\, the performance will also be followed by a live Q&A session with that night’s musicians. Tickets for each performance are $20 for an individual or $35 for families. Click here to purchase tickets. \n\nSalon 2:\n \nAfter playing an enjoyable summer salon together\, Lisa Goddard\, Colin Davis\, Anne Black\, and Steven Laven return with a new program. Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 95\, known as the “Serioso” quartet\, is a compact piece on the cusp of Beethoven’s late work\, which pushes the boundaries of form and harmony further than ever before. William Grant Still’s Lyric Quartette is a musical portrait of three of the composer’s friends. Known as the “Dean of Afro-American Composers\,” Still’s accomplishments include over 200 compositions\, being the first African American to conduct a major orchestra (the L.A. Philharmonic)\, and collaborating with prominent literary and cultural figures in the Harlem Renaissance movement. The concert also includes James Lee III’s Abraham’s Sons (in Memoriam Trayvon Martin). Intense and dramatic\, this piece is dedicated to the family of Trayvon Martin. Mr. Lee musically depicts the scope of suffering and mourning inferred by the title of this elegiac solo piece. DESCRIPTION:Actors will spend the Semester creating and exploring imaginative characters\, learning choreography\, and proper singing technique with director\, composer\, and playwright Kelvyn Koning; an experienced musical theatre educator. \nBroadway Bound will allow each actor to sing\, dance\, deliver lines\, and be part of a virtual theatrical ensemble which builds presence and self-confidence. \nCreative and engaging instructor Mr. Kelvyn will work with the young actors ideas to compose original music and scenes for each class as they prepare a virtual world premiere production! \nBefore filming\, the student will be provided with a Broadway Bound “Backstage” Box with all the costume pieces and props needed to film their scenes\, songs\, and choreography with flair! \nClick here for registration. \nAges 5-7 years\nSept. 12 to Jan. 16 – Saturdays: 1:00 – 1:45 pm \nAges 8-10 years\nSept. 10 to Jan. 7  – Thursday: 5:00 – 5:45 pm\nSept. 12 to Jan. 16 – Saturday: 1:45 – 2:30 pm

SUMMARY:Pro Arte's Fall Salon Series: Salon 4
DESCRIPTION:The Fall Salon Series takes place entirely online. Each of these six concerts premieres at 8pm on Thursday night and will be available to watch through the following Sunday. On the night of the premiere\, the performance will also be followed by a live Q&A session with that night’s musicians. Tickets for each performance are $20 for an individual or $35 for families. Click here to purchase tickets. \nSalon 4: \nCellist Aron Zelkowicz is joined by pianist Christina Wright-Ivanova for a unique chamber music program that celebrates the American spirit. Twentieth and twenty-first century music for cello and piano showcase a variety of styles via tiny snapshots or “vignettes” from the American vernacular including jazz\, blues\, and folksong.
