SUMMARY:Newton Nomadic Theater: No Exit POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:Something old\, something new – Noni Lewis\, one of our regular actors in recent years (Revolutionists\, Colder Than Here\, Dracula: the Bloody Truth) is in the director’s seat this time out\, with her original take on a famous classic – No Exit. A slightly odd and inscrutable bellhop leads three different guests into the same hotel room.  Their three lives and three stories unfold in disturbing\, surprising\, and at times very funny ways\, because there is ‘no exit.’\nEach week No Exit will move to a different\, interesting\, and unusual performance space.  Like nomads the world over\, Newton Nomadic Theater never settles in any place for long. After just a few performances\, they get restless\, pack up the camels and move on. Tickets are $25. Click here for the full list of dates and venues.

SUMMARY:SCC Concert: The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc POSTPONED
DESCRIPTION:The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc is a fiddle trio that masterfully blends the traditions of Norway\, Sweden\, and the Shetland Islands. Olav Luksengård Mjelva (Norway)\, Anders Hall (Sweden)\, and Kevin Henderson (Shetland Islands)\, have swiftly gained a reputation for their gripping and unique blend of fiddle music since the inception of the Bloc in early 2009. They maintain a firm focus on the traditions of their home\, while developing a sound that has been described as “meaningful\,””intense\,” and “invigorating.” Their clever use of harmony\, rhythm\, riffs\, and bass lines creates a sound that leaves the listener enthralled but at the same time dumbfounded that the sound only comes from three fiddles. Cost is $20; $10 for SCC members. More info at scandicenter.org. \n“Seldom before can three fiddlers have sounded so well matched as the Nordic Fiddlers Bloc. And seldom before can three fiddles have sounded so much like four and at times five instruments without using electronic trickery.” – The Herald

SUMMARY:Pro Arte presents Serenades and Illuminations CANCELED
DESCRIPTION:Pro Arte welcomes Guest Conductor David Angus and tenor Jesse Darden for an enchanting program of two retrospective serenades and one visionary song cycle. The Romantic serenades by Richard Strauss and Johannes Brahms stem from a Classical genre of music traditionally performed outdoors in the evening. Although Strauss’s noble Serenade in E-flat is small in proportion—a single movement for thirteen winds—it launched his career as a renowned composer and conductor. By contrast\, Brahms’s robust Serenade in D rivals his symphonies in terms of length. In Les Illuminations\, Benjamin Britten sets the fantastical poetry of French Romantic poet Arthur Rimbaud to equally dazzling music for voice and string orchestra.

SUMMARY:Commonwealth Chorale: Reverence & Joy
DESCRIPTION:Melt your winter blues away with Commonwealth Chorale’s richly textured program of brass\, chorus\, and more. Bruckner considered his Te Deum his favorite (and possibly greatest) work. Gustav Mahler described it as written “for the tongues of angels\, heaven-blest\, chastened hearts\, and souls purified in the fire!” Bernstein’s French and Latin choruses\, written as incidental music for The Lark\, will also feature narration from the play\, based on the life of Joan of Arc. Finally\, Bob Chilcott’s joyful Jubilate draws on both traditional Latin text and verses from the poet-priest Gerard Manley Hopkins. Soloists for the program are: Chelsea Blaser\, soprano; Vera Savage\, mezzo-soprano\, Neil Ferreira\, tenor; and David Cushing\, bass. Cost: $25-35. SUMMARY:Newton Nomadic Theater: No Exit
Tickets are $20. Click here for the full list of dates and venues.
