We welcome all members to apply. This is a non-juried show limited only by capacity. So sign up early! \n  \nIMPORTANT DATES \n\nCall for art: July 17  – August 7\nExhibit dates: September 1 – September 29\nDrop-off of art:  Friday\, September 1\nPick-up of art:  Friday\, September 29\nReception:  Wednesday\, September 13\, 7:00-8:30 pm\n\nELIGIBILITY \n\nOpen to Newton Art Association members with all dues paid for the 2023-2024 season.\nThis is not a juried show. All entries will be accepted unless otherwise notified.\n\nAWARDS \n\nGene Faucher Award: $100\nDr. and Mrs. Leslie Russell Award: $100\nMolly L. and Henry Schoenberg Award: $100\nNAA First Place Award: $300\nNAA Second Place Award: $200\nNAA Third Place Award: $100\nFour Honorable Mentions\n\nABOUT THE JUROR\nChenoa Baker (she/her) is a curator\, wordsmith\, and descendant of self-emancipators. Art spaces as incubators for intergroup dialogue and imaginative portals were her foray into curatorial work. In addition to leading the exhibition program as the Associate Curator at Beacon Gallery\, she worked on: Gio Swaby: Fresh Up at the Peabody Essex Museum; Simone Leigh at ICA/Boston; Simone Leigh: Sovereignty at the 59th La Biennale di Venezia; and Touching Roots: Black Ancestral Legacies in the Americas at MFA/Boston. Her autobiographical-style art criticism appears in Public Parking\, Material Intelligence\, Studio Potter\, Boston Art Review\, Sixty Inches From Center\, Burnaway\, and a monograph contribution for Helena Metaferia: Generations\, Art For This Moment.

DESCRIPTION:The Art as Therapy program aims to give middle school students the skills and tools to express themselves creatively\, connect with other students\, and build the foundations for ego-building practices. Students in the program have said they benefited from the program\, enjoying the art making as well as the connectedness of the class. \nParents/guardians who are interested in learning more about the program and speaking with the instructors are invited to an informational Zoom session on Thursday\, September 14 at 7:oo PM.
