DESCRIPTION:Irena Roman is a signature member of The American Watercolor Society\, The Transparent Watercolor Society of America\, The Watercolor USA Honor Society and The New England Watercolor Society. \nA recipient of The American Watercolor Society’s High Winds Medal of Honor and the Ralph Smith Memorial Award Irena has also twice received the Watercolor West Award from The National Watercolor Society as well as three Gold medals and two Silver medals from the New England Watercolor Society. Her work has been displayed in the prestigious Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolor Biennial\, China. She was recognized in Creative Quarterly’s 100 Best International Juried Competition and was awarded Best in Show in the Global Association of Watercolor Artists 2018 International Competition. \nIrena’s illustration work has been recognized in Communication Arts illustration annuals and in Print’s Regional Design annuals. She received a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles and a Gold Medal from the Dallas Advertising Club. Her clients have included HarperCollins Publishers\, Little Brown Publishing\, The New Yorker magazine\, Toray International\, Japan\, Hormel\, and many others. \nIn addition to being a painter\, Irena is a Professor at Massachusetts College of Art and Design\, Boston.

DESCRIPTION:A wonderful Norwegian male choir is getting ready to warm up for Black Sabbath and to sing the last verse for their conductor. \n\nEvery Tuesday\, 25 men in their prime get together in a bar in Oslo to sing in a choir and drink beers. They have joked that they have promised to sing at each other’s funerals  and now it looks like the choir’s conductor will be the first to be sung out. The doctor has given him just a few months to live. Which is roughly the time that the male choir has to prepare for its biggest gig to date: a warm-up job for Black Sabbath. The countdown has started\, while both the cancer-stricken conductor and the wonderful lads in the choir try to keep their spirits high with songs about the hardships of middle-aged men\, while they also prepare to say farewell to each other. The joy of singing and community help them to open up to each other and their feelings. He was a writer\, playwright\, composer\, philosopher\, social reformer and painter who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Maitreyee is trained in the classical Indian vocal tradtion. \nWhen the world crumbles around us\, death tolls rise and intolerance grows\, Rabindranath Tagore’s words and music offers solace and perspective. \nJoining Maitreyee will be Monami Roy\, Raka Dutta\, Swadhina Guhathakurta and Swati Biswas. Swati and Swadhina will be dancing. DESCRIPTION:Join NTK’s all new Devising Ensemble! Our first program for middle schoolers gives participants the opportunity to explore new forms of performance and hone their artistic skills\, all while creating an original piece of theatre as an ensemble. Specifically tailored to the interests of the students\, this class is an excellent opportunity for young performers to expand their artistic horizons and learn more about their craft. ​Open to Students in Grades 6-8. ​Tuition: $385 \nThursdays from 6:30-8 pm\nSeptember 9th through December 16th\n​Taught by Abby Lass \nLocation for all classes: FUUSN – First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton\n1326 Washington St\, Newton\, MA 02465 \nWe follow closings for all Newton Public school holidays and snow days. \nWe want theatre to be accessible to everyone.\nIf you are interested in learning more about Newton Theatre Kids scholarships\, please email Melissa.
