DESCRIPTION:This exciting class will bridge the methods of gesture drawing with abstract painting. Students will investigate intuitive mark-making as the base for an abstract painting\, and explore ways that color heightens the work. They will explore the relationship between line\, shape and color\, and look at art from the present and past to better understand the possibilities. DESCRIPTION:The Fall Salon Series takes place entirely online. Each of these six concerts premieres at 8pm on Thursday night and will be available to watch through the following Sunday. On the night of the premiere\, the performance will also be followed by a live Q&A session with that night’s musicians. Tickets for each performance are $20 for an individual or $35 for families. We are so excited about this concert! We will travel through a couple of standards\, the gorgeous Summer Music by Samuel Barber\, the perfectly danceable Partita by Irving Fine\, and also visit a couple of pieces that may be less familiar. Umoja\, meaning unity\, written by one of our top young American composers\, Valerie Coleman\, and is more timely than ever. We go back in time a bit with an arrangement of Summerland by the formidable and under performed William Grant Still\, originally written for solo piano in 1936. And we couldn’t resist throwing in a nod to Paris with some Gershwin just for fun\, because who doesn’t need some fun these days? SUMMARY:Scandinavian Cultural Center online: "Trespassing Bergman" Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Scandinavian Cultural Center for an online screening of the 2013 documentary Trespassing Bergman\, available throughout the month of October. \nSwedish film director Ingmar Bergman built his house in the mid 1960’s\, choosing to withdraw from Stockholm\, to an island in the Baltic Sea. Throughout his life\, the exact location of the house was a well-guarded secret. Here the demon director would live and shoot some of his seminal films until his death in 2007. \n“Trespassing Bergman” takes you to Bergman’s mystical home in the company of great directors such as Michael Haneke\, Claire Denis and the aforementioned Iñárritu. “Trespassing Bergman” tells the story of Ingmar Bergman\, his island and some of his most central films. \nPreviously unseen\, behind-the-scenes\, footage from the making of Bergman’s films are mixed with interviews shot at Fårö and around the world. Filmmakers such as Woody Allen\, Lars von Trier\, Holly Hunter\, Ang Lee and Wes Anderson talk about the impact that films ranging from “Summer with Monika” (1953)\,“Persona” (1966) to “Fanny and Alexander” (1982) have had on their lives and carriers. \nClick here to learn more and sign up.
