In 1909\, poor\, idealistic theology student Henrik Bergman falls in love with Anna Åkerbloom\, the intelligent\, educated daughter of a rich family in Uppsala. After their wedding Henrik becomes a priest in the north of Sweden. Urbane Anna can’t stand living in the rural county and grows increasingly restless. SUMMARY:Historic Newton: Lakes District Bicycle Tour
DESCRIPTION:Historic Newton takes you on this safe and easy (no hills) ride past historical sites related to bicycle history in Newton. Visit where bicycles were built and raced in the 1890s\, and also see where bicyclists by the hundreds met up and picnicked in the Lakes District of the Charles River in Newton Lower Falls\, Auburndale\, and part of Waltham. We will ride approximately 14 miles in a group with nobody left behind. The ride is led by bicycle history author Larry Finison and CyclingSavvy instructor John Allen. Part of Historic Newton’s Adventures in History series supported in part by Newton-Wellesley Hospital and a grant from the Newton Cultural Council\, a local agency\, which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. Pre-registration is required through Charles River Wheelers. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and insurance regulations\, if you are not a CRW member\, you need to join by August 12\, through crw.org. Cost $15 per person (includes CRW bike shop discounts\, Ride with GPS\, Ride Library). After you join\, wait a day for your membership to go through and then register for the history ride and sign the on-line waiver. Rain date: Sunday\, August 23.

SUMMARY:SCC Virtual Screening - The Best Intentions
DESCRIPTION:Join the Scandinavian Cultural Center for a virtual screening of Ingmar Bergman’s 1992 film The Best Intentions\, available throughout the month of August. \nSwedish master Ingmar Bergman penned this loving tribute to his parent’s epic romance. In 1909\, poor\, idealistic theology student Henrik Bergman falls in love with Anna Åkerbloom\, the intelligent\, educated daughter of a rich family in Uppsala. After their wedding Henrik becomes a priest in the north of Sweden. Urbane Anna can’t stand living in the rural county and grows increasingly restless. New Art faculty conduct a real-time class through Zoom video meetings. \nOrigami\, the art of paper folding\, is a fun and easy art that can be done at all levels. It is simple to do at home and needs no special paper. These live online classes will follow the skills of the students and adjust projects accordingly. We will learn about the history of Origami as well as the names and vocabulary of different folds. Students will begin with intermediate projects and build up to more complex ones such as the traditional origami Crane. \nPlease note: Online registration for this class ends on Thursday\, August 6th at 12PM.
