New Things To Do This Week #5

NCA highlights arts & culture things to do online!

NCA is keeping you connected virtually with local arts and culture organizations you love, as well as introducing you to enriching online opportunities. Many more online events on our calendar. Have a safe and healthy week!

*All Newton Music School, one of the oldest community music schools in the country, is now registering new online students! Visit their website, allnewton.org, to explore the sounds and personalities of each instrument family. Request a weekly private lesson (distance-learning) timeslot via their online form here. The registration fee for new distance-learning students is waived. Learn a new instrument today! More info at allnewton.org.

*Newton Free Library presents Virtual Trivia Night on Thursday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m. Come join the fun and test your mastery of useful (and useless) information! Library staff will challenge players with questions from a variety of categories on Zoom. No restrictions on team size. One registration per team. Max of 2 zoom locations per team. The Zoom link will be sent out the day before the event.  FREE and for all ages. More info at newtonfreelibrary.net.

*Newton Nomadic Theater will be hosting the Lunatic Talent Jamboree this Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. on their Facebook page. The Jamboree is an hour-long, online, live gonzo variety show streamed to Facebook Live. They’ve got some fabulous talent lined up, some total lunacy planned, and they’re going to put it all in a big blender to create the Lunatic Talent Jamboree. Don’t miss this hour of off-the wall fun and entertainment! FREE. More info about Newton Nomadic Theater at https://sites.google.com/site/newtonnomadictheater/.

*The New Art Center is offering an online teen Photoshop class for grades 6-10 from Wednesday, April 22 through Wednesday, May 27 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Using both your own photos as well as found images, students will learn to finely edit digital images, swap backgrounds, make memes, manipulate faces, enhance digital images, make a mini planet, and maybe even make a photo with more than one of them in it. Requirements: any version of Adobe Photoshop CS2-CC (teacher will use CS6); a computer mouse; a computer with attached camera, or the ability to put smart phone photos on the working computer. Cost is $200. Register today at here. More info about New Art Center at newartcenter.org.

*Newton Theatre Company is proud to introduce its first Radio Hour: “Sorry, Wrong Number” on Thursday, April 23, at 8:00 p.m. NTC’s Radio Hour Series will feature a variety of one-act plays performed live over Zoom. They will also teach you how to make a themed cocktail before each production that you can enjoy during the show–what better way to spend an evening inside? “Sorry, Wrong Number” is a classic noir thriller–when an isolated woman accidentally overhears two people plotting a murder over the phone, she must try and stop the crime before it occurs. FREE. Register to view the production here. More info about Newton Theatre Company at newtontheatrecompany.com.
