SUMMARY:Newton Nomadic Theater presents: Miss Delta Township
DESCRIPTION:Can your story be a coming-of-age tale when you’ve already reached a certain age? Miss Delta Township answers that question with a story about trying to fit your fantastical dreams into an ordinary life. \nWe got a tip a few weeks ago about the world premiere of a brand new one woman show by Joanne Callum Powers – Miss Delta Township. We hopped in the car for a road trip and went to see one of the final performances before it closed… and we loved it!!  It was smart\, moving\, wildly inventive and uproariously funny. \nNewton Nomadic Theater has paired up with the Newton Cultural Alliance to bring two performances of the show to the wonderfully restored historic Nathaniel Allen House on Fri. Nov 5\, and Sat. Nov 6 – 7:30 PM. \nSeating is limited and there are only two performances so don’t wait to order tickets before they sell out. \nClick here for tickets ($25) \nNOTE: All guests must bring proof of vaccination with them to the performance. \nAs per City of Newton’s current rules\, guests must wear masks while inside the Allen House

SUMMARY:Festival of the Arts: Pro Arte Quartet
DESCRIPTION:As part of the 6th Annual Newton Festival of the Arts\, enjoy a concert from Pro Arte’s Quartet. \nJuneteenth marks the anniversary of the emancipation of slaves in the United States. The quartet will share three works by African American composers\, each of which has moments of dance and reflection. Wynton Marsalis’ At the Octoroon Balls is a set of scenes inspired by his early life in New Orleans. We will play three movements from this work – Creole Contradanzas\, Blue Lights on the Bayou\, and the Rampart Street Row House Rag. Florence Price’s String Quartet No. 2 in A minor weaves together her beautiful lyric writing and African American vernacular with daring chromaticism and vibrant movement. The third movement (of four) is a Juba\, a dance developed by Africans brought to America against their will. Dorothy Rudd Moore’s Modes is a beautiful and compact three-movement work\, which ends with an energetic\, movement-inspiring finale. Lisa Goddard & Colin Davis\, violins\, Anne Black\, viola\, and Steve Laven\, cello.

DESCRIPTION:As part of the 6th Annual Newton Festival of the Arts\, enjoy a concert from Newton Baroque. \nNewton Baroque took a spectacular leap onto the national stage in May 2014 when they performed three exciting innovative programs as a featured ensemble at the American Bach Society annual convention at Kenyon College in Ohio\, garnering an overwhelming response from some of the most knowledgeable Bach scholars in the world. \nDepending on the requirements of the chosen repertoire\, Newton Baroque draws on its roster of musicians who work frequently with the group\, comprising some of the leading Baroque specialists both nationally and internationally. They have also appeared numerous times on Boston’s SoHIP concert series\, on WGBH Radio\, Boston\, and on various concert series in New York City. Newton Baroque is a recipient of NCC grants.
