Bourgault’s artistic and scholarly research has been presented in the US and internationally. SUMMARY:New Art Center presents Artist Talk: Marlon Forrester
DESCRIPTION:Dates: 4/14\nDetails: Thursday\, 1 Session\nTimes: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM \nThe rise of NFTs has radically changed how we see the future of art. Painting\, drawing\, and sculpture must find ways to push into a space in which both spectacle and society embrace a new digital currency. Join Marlon Forrester for a conversation based on his reflections on stepping through the looking glass of traditional artmaking into a new reality of NFTs and the Metaverse\, reflections on his process and sale of his 1st NFT. \nAbout the artist: \nMarlon Forrester\, born 1976 in Guyana\, South America\, is an artist and educator raised in Boston\, MA. He is a recipient of the 2021 James and Audrey Foster Prize and his work is in the collection of the ICA/Boston. Forrester is a graduate of School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston\, B.A 2008 and Yale School of Art\, M.F.A. 2010. He is a resident artist at African American Masters Artist Residency Program (AAMARP) adjunct to the Department of African-American Studies in association with Northeastern University. He worked previously as a painting lecturer at SMFA (2017-2019) and has shown both internationally and nationally. His current body of work explores how through media\, Pop Culture\, and advertisement the black male body is commodified through the sport of basketball. Utilizing his concept of “disequilibrium” he works to deconstruct the rites and rituals found within the game and life through his drawings\, paintings\, performance and large-scale installation.

SUMMARY:New Art Center presents Art As Salve
DESCRIPTION:Rooted in the concept of Healing Justice\, Art as Salve showcases responses and interventions to generational trauma and violence with the hope of impactful change to mend our bodies\, hearts and minds. The exhibit\, Art as Salve\, asks the question – how might art function as a holistic intervention for survivors of oppression and violence? What would happen if art was used as a symbol for healing? Visit the New Art Corridor to see these introspective works and share in this healing process with New Art Center\, the artists\, and the community around us. \nThis exhibition is a part of the Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color (BIPOC) Curatorial Program. As a community arts education space\, the New Art Center believes that art creates change. With a 44+ year history of building community through art\, we recognize it is crucial to use our platform to fight systemic racism and social injustices. \nThe BIPOC Curatorial Program enables curators who identify as Black\, Indigenous\, or People of Color to develop and share exhibitions that spark dialogue\, share personal vision\, and personal experiences through curation. We hope this opportunity will create much needed dialogue to counter systemic racism. \nhttps://newartcenter.org/class/art-as-salve-a-close-looking-tour/

SUMMARY:New Art Center presents: Artist Talk with Stephanie Osser
DESCRIPTION:Dates: 3/4\nDetails: Friday\, 1 Session\nTimes: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nStephanie Osser\nIllustrator- Boston\, Massachusetts.\nAt a time when the world’s news is filled with hardships\, fearful concerns\, negativity\, and divisiveness\, I have committed my art to the uplifting of the human spirit and as an emanation of optimism. It is my hope that each work of art I create will take its beholders away from the darkness of our times and bring them into a world of light— whether it is through my lithophanes\, the use of bright and colorful glazes against luminescent backgrounds\, or explorations of the properties of light and shadow.
