*Newton Baroque presents a concert on Saturday, January 7 at 7:30 pm. Johann Sebastian Bach was appointed Thomas Cantor in Leipzig in 1723 after the first two candidates declined the position. Andrus Madsen performs on Harpsichord works by all three composers considered for this post which eventually went to J. S Bach. *Please note that this program has been changed due to illness from its original presentation of “Madrigals by Luzzaschi, De Wert, and Marenzio.” Listen to a master of Baroque music played by the master of Newton Baroque.
*Join conductor Gisèle Ben-Dor as she returns to lead Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra in Volcanic on Sunday, January 8 at 3:00 pm. A sweeping program featuring American violinist Lucia Lin—in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Octet, a playful suite in the tradition of wind band music popular in Austria at the time. Get your tickets for this Volcanic performance not to be missed.
*The Commonwealth Chorale seeks choral singers of all voice types with strong vocal and sight-reading skills for the 2022-2023 season. *Men wishing to sing in the Highland Glee Club should attend an open rehearsal on Tuesday, January 10th or 17th in the Great Hall at Grace Episcopal Church. Experience the camaraderie, fulfillment, and joy of singing in a historic men’s ensemble.
*Newton Art Association presents a virtual demonstration by International watercolor artist, Soon Y Warren, known for her spectacular renderings of everyday objects. On Thursday, January 12 at 7:00 pm Warren will demonstrate the process of painting crystal – showing how she applies the colors layer by layer to create a finished painting.
