Like Seeing Through Trees

Artwork by Nina Bellucci

On View May-June, 2026

Nina Bellucci is a mixed-media and installation artist who draws inspiration from nature and explores the practice of mindfulness as a means for slowing down. Recent work has evolved off the stretcher and utilizes a variety of meditative processes and materials. These “banner paintings”, meant to be viewed in-the-round, pay homage to awe-inspiring moments in nature, like seeing the sun shining through the trees, and underscore the importance of taking time to notice the world around. By incorporating delicate details such as suspended mosaic mirrors, embroidered French knots, and sequins that draw the eye, these works offer the viewer reasons to stay longer, to be present, and to wonder.

Born and raised in sunny Florida, Bellucci received her BFA from the University of South Florida (2006) and an MFA from Boston University (2009). She has won numerous awards including a Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Grant in Painting (2018) and a Joan Mitchell Fellowship nomination (2022). She has exhibited nationally for many years, including most recently at Gallery263, Cambridge, MA; Warnes Contemporary, NYC;  Tender Art Space, Concord, MA; and LaiSun Keane, Boston, MA. Her work is represented by Uprise Art, NYC. Bellucci maintains a studio in Waltham, MA and lives in Newton, MA with her family.

Bullough's Pond & Beyond

Paintings by Charlotte Lockwood

On View May-June, 2026

Charlotte Lockwood (1916-2010) was a noted artist in the Boston area. A native of New England, she graduated from Jackson College (Tufts) as a science major. Her interest in art began during World War II when she trained in art therapy in order to teach paraplegics. She studied under various artists both in Rockport Mass and in the Boston area as well as studying art history at Wellesley College.

She taught art through the Golub-Lockwood Studio in Newton and then on her own at Lockwood Studio for over 40 years. She had hundreds of loyal students who remained in her classes for many years, always encouraged regardless of their level of experience. Each student received individual instruction and attention. Explaining that the first mark on the canvas is not just the beginning but a building vehicle for an exciting journey, she relieved the stress and challenge of the blank slate. She enriched the lives of so many and some went on to become professional artists themselves.

Charlotte Lockwood was a member of the Newton Art Association and an associate member of the Rockport Art Association. She was an eminently qualified art historian, teacher, lecturer and painter. Her style, creative realism, was modern and free in approach. Ms. Lockwood was inventive in her choice of subjects and in her use of different mediums including watercolors, oil, casein and pastel. She explored printmaking and hand-papermaking in her work and was always interested in pushing herself to create from within.
