*On Friday, February 10 at 7:00 pm The New Art Center hosts A Night Out with Manisha Trivedi. Join this workshop that guides students through the history and practice of Henna, a temporary body art made from dye prepared with organic powder, essential oils, sugar, and water. *The New Philharmonia Orchestra celebrates Valentine’s Day with a concert and reception on Saturday, February 11 at 7:30 pm. In the spirit of the season join New Phil for Valentine’s Day Soiree, a diverse chamber ensemble program full of fun and fancy, featuring several soloists including 14-year-old Newton pianist Laetitia Ji as well as New Phil members Julia Wong, Montie Meyer, and Karen Martin. Get your tickets to hear love songs across the generations.
*New Rep Theatre is back on stage with Love Weekend. On Saturday- Sunday, February 11-12 at 7:00 pm & 2:00 pm, Love Weekend, will bring to the stage an experience at The Mosesian Center for the Arts featuring Yukihiro Kanesaka, Leon Beal Jr., Athene Wilson, Valerie Stephens, Terri Deletetsky, Maria Hendricks, and Michael John Ciszewski. Come celebrate love in tributes to two of the most soulful, artistic voices of our time, Donny Hathaway & Roberta Flack. Tickets and more information are available for both events here.
*Join The New Art Center and friends from Newton Community Pride on Sunday, February 12 from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm for a Community Cultural Day event to celebrate Black Art. Black Art Celebration is a tribute to Black History Month with art-making, snacks, and the opening of He Changed the World, an exhibition created by New Art’s Martin Luther King vacation program students in collaboration with artist Jamaal Eversley. *Come hear the incredible musicians of the First Unitarian Universalist Society on Sunday, February 12 at 2:00 pm for the FUUSN Musicians Concert. This year’s concert is a fundraiser for the UU Urban Ministry. You’ll listen to renowned pianist Lois Shapiro, acclaimed saxophonist and composer Geoff Wadsworth, and the engaging FUUSN Band. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the UU Urban Ministry.
