*Historic Newton hosts Durant-Kenrick Garden Days on Saturday, May 11th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. You can help maintain the Durant-Kenrick Gardens and Historic Newton’s heirloom plants during spring volunteer days. Typical tasks include raking, weeding, and planting. Learn more about the historic gardens and meet fellow history and plant enthusiasts. Sign up here to lend your landscaping talents to a garden that is over 200 years old. 

*The Scandinavian Cultural Center & Library presents the Film Screening of Practice (å øve) on Saturday, May 11th at 1:00 pm. When an 18-year-old climate activist gets invited to an audition at the famous Opera House in Oslo, she only has days to travel over 1500km and she refuses to fly. On a road trip through the beautiful landscapes of Norway, her passion for music and her environmental idealism are put to the test. Tickets are available here.

*The Suzuki School of Newton celebrates with Newton Multicultural Festival at their home in Waban on Saturday, May 11th from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. Enjoy musical performances by Odaiko New England, Yoni Battat, and the violin students of the Suzuki School. The afternoon features an intergenerational art show with the Suzuki Preschool and Newton Watercolor Association and a demonstration of Chinese paper-cutting. Wrap up the afternoon by touring the preschool and enjoying an international potluck – and bring your favorite cultural dish to share!

*On Saturday, May 11th at 8:00 pm Commonwealth Chorale performs The Dream Unfinished at The Church of the Holy Name in West Roxbury. Told through the voices of a diverse selection of composers, the music for this concert celebrates the ideals of the American Dream, by exploring racial injustice, hope, human resilience, and the possibility of realizing a world where people are not enslaved and where people of all backgrounds can coexist harmoniously.
