*Newton Art Association’s 2021 New Member Show is live online featuring 16 talented artists who have joined the NAA in the past two years. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners by jurors Shannon and Carole Slattery. A virtual reception will be held Friday, June 11th at 7:00 p.m. View the amazing works by new members here.
*Visit the Hyde Bandshell this weekend on Friday or Saturday at 8:00 p.m. or Sunday at 3:00 p.m. for Mary Stuart: A Collaboration of Song and Text. Newton Theatre Company and Cappella Clausura have joined forces to bring together powerhouse performers into one seamless production. Two queens; one throne. Two women pitted against each other in a man’s world. Find out who wins this Renaissance style game of thrones in a sharp new adaptation of Schiller’s drama directed by Melissa Bernstein and Amelia LeClair. *The Highland Glee Club is thrilled to perform its first live concert since the pandemic began on Saturday, June 12th at 1:00 p.m. With new Music Director Sarah Telford, Songs of the Sea will include seafaring shanties, an audience singalong, a Gilbert and Sullivan triptych featuring star “patter” baritone Tom Frates, and a tribute to families who have suffered losses due to the pandemic. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, sunhats, and picnics to this outdoor performance at the Hyde Bandstand in Newton. Admission is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. *Historic Newton proudly presents Mary Morganti’s Annual Plant Swap. Come join dozens of local gardeners on Saturday, June 12th at 1:00 p.m. as they share the bounty of their spring gardens. You do not need to bring a plant in order to take one home, but bringing your own pots is recommended. Demonstrations on the basics of the Native American Three Sisters planting system will be offered. *The YMCA is inspiring kids to live up to their potential by being healthy, active, and engaged! Come to Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, June 12th at 2:30 p.m. All are invited to the New Balance Track & Field for this FREE family event featuring healthy games, activities, and sports. Plus entertainment by Curious Creatures at 2:30-3:30 pm, Steve Charette’s Magic Show at 3:00-3:45 pm and Tie Dye youth t-shirts all day. Get more healthy info here.
