*The Allen Center is pleased to host open gallery hours for the photography exhibition of the late Bruce Hugh Wilson. The Allen Center Gallery will be open on Thursday, October 24th from 12-2 pm and Saturday, October 26th from 6-7:30 pm. Don’t miss your chance to see this wonderful exhibit. The generous sale of all artwork goes directly to support The Allen Center.
*Newton Nomadic Theater is back in business! On Friday and Saturday, October 25-26th at 7:30 pm, NNT will present A Walk in the Woods. In the 1980’s two arms negotiators were deadlocked in talks in Geneva and decided to take a walk in the woods nearby, the idea for this play was born. Tickets are available for this “very funny, yet disturbing tale of two people trying to save the world.”
*On Saturday, October 26th at 7:30 pm, 440- The Gypsy Jazz Quartet takes over The Allen Center with Toe-Tapping Snappy Hot Jazz, the next installment of Cherry Street Music’s programs. Led by “The Jazzy Violinist” Tomoko Iwamoto, with Jack Clark, clarinet; Jack Soref, guitar; and Gregory Toro, bass; 440 performs their original tunes and those of their inspiration, Django Rheinhart. Join the fun for an evening that will transport you to an intimate nightclub where you’ll be tempted to dance the night away.
*Join The Highland Glee Club for Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 26th at 3:00 pm. Dust off your dirndls and lederhosen for an afternoon of lively music followed by a festive reception at Grace Episcopal Church. Nothing captures fall colors like the lovely burnished sound of men’s voices. Special guest operatic baritone Junhan Choi. Prost!
*Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra’s 47th season opens at Second Church in Newton with Treasures of Youth and Age. On Sunday, October 27th at 3:00 pm Newton native, now Louisville-based, conductor Gabriel Lefkowitz leads an expressive program for strings, principal clarinetist Ian Greitzer, and principal bassoonist Ronald Haroutunian. Get your tickets for a “work like no other.”
