*The Newton Art Association hosts a virtual demonstration with Angela Alés entitled, Surrealism/Magic Realism on Thursday, October 14th at 7:00 p.m. Alés is an artist born in Barranquilla, Colombia, of Andalusian and Lebanese descent. *The West Suburban YMCA’s Annual Fall Festival happens Saturday, October 16th from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. Wear your costume and join in on the fun for a jam-packed afternoon of Halloween-themed activities, games, crafts, and entertainment. *The Scandinavian Center hosts an author visit with Rachael Cerrotti on Sunday, October 17th at 2:00 p.m. Her new book We Share the Same Sky: A Memoir of Memory & Migration is the story of a granddaughter’s decade-long journey to retrace her grandmother’s wartime escape and weave together the thin threads of family history. *Pro Arte kicks off its 44th Season with Ensemble 1 on Sunday, October 17th at 3:00 p.m. This season will include a dazzling and wide-ranging program of music across centuries and continents in various musical venues. Principal Conductor Kevin Rhodes opens the first concert with the exuberant Dabke for string orchestra, composed by Syrian-American composer Kareem Roustom in 2014.
