*The Newton Art Association presents a virtual demonstration of oil painting with Kathy Anderson this Thursday, November 18th at 7:00 p.m. Anderson is known for her beautiful garden landscapes and intimate glimpses of nature. She has the ability to see and translate the colors of the natural world to the canvas with a sensitivity that few possess. Kathy promises a demo using materials from her garden as she illustrates the importance of a good block-in. Join Kathy here to brush up on your oil skills.
*The New Art Shop from New Art Center @ Trio Newton opens this Friday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. A cooperative style store run by artists whose work is available for sale. The New Art Shop builds upon the organization’s mission and vision by creating an accessible platform for artists to share and sell their work. Work featured ranges from handmade jewelry to paintings and wearable textiles to sculptures. The store will be open for shopping on several weekends leading up to the holidays. *Join The New Art Center for a talk with Boston-based, L.A.-raised artist Cicely Carew, Friday, November 19th at 6:00 p.m. Carew was the featured artist for the Boston Art Review‘s No. 6 issue. She also creates public art installations around the Boston area, including a major 5,000 sq ft. public art project in the Prudential Center curated by Now + There. *Newton Nomadic Theater returns this weekend November 19-21st for an encore presentation of the traveling one-woman show, Miss Delta Township. A smart, moving, wildly inventive, and uproariously funny work by Joanne Callum Powers. Performances will be held in NCA’s very own Allen Center for the Arts. Can your story be a coming-of-age tale when you’ve already reached a certain age? “Miss Delta Township” answers that question with a story about trying to fit your fantastical dreams into an ordinary life. *Don’t miss Suzuki School of Newton’s Winter Faculty Concert live and in person on Sunday, November 21st at 4:00 p.m. at the Newton Presbyterian Church. Pieces performed include works by Florence Price, Rebecca Clarke, and Johann Sebastian Bach. The concert will also be broadcast on Facebook Live for those who are uncomfortable attending in person.
