*The Newton Cultural Alliance presents a gallery exhibit free and open to the public Wednesday, September 21st from 2:00- 4:00 pm at The Allen Center. Presented in partnership with Historic Newton, An Uncommon Education: The Allen School, chronicles the Nathaniel Allen School, a remarkable 50-year experiment in progressive education, founded in Newton in 1854.
* New Art Center will be hosting an information session for its Art is Healing program, Wednesday, September 21st at 5:30 pm. Erin Palazzolo-Loparo discusses the program she will be leading with an open Q&A. This class is aimed at teens in grades 6-8. *Come to The Allen Center in West Newton to attend an evening concert on Wednesday, September 21st at 7:30 pm. Violinist Alyssa Wang and pianist Ruoting Li perform a free recital, “All the Live-Long Day.” This duo’s performance features all-American music including Barber, Canzone, Mackey, Gardner, Adams, and Copland. Register for your free tickets to see these talented musicians.
*New Art Center hosts an opening reception on Thursday, September 22nd from 6:00- 8:00 pm for its latest exhibit exploring paint, pastels, ceramics, and more. Creative Process, an annual exhibition that features student and faculty work from 2021-2022, represents one year of creation through a colorful lens presented at New Art Corridor. The Opening Reception will feature guided tours, detailed art descriptions, and light refreshments.
*The Scandinavian Cultural Center hosts an opening reception Saturday, September 24th from 4-6 pm for textile artist Ann Bausman. Ann employs many textile and sewing techniques including the Japanese art of boro stitching. Her artwork reuses even the smallest scraps of fabric adding visible mending to these fabric collages and other pieces. Register to attend the gathering on Saturday, September 24th from 4-6 pm.
*The First Church of Chestnut Hill’s Lisa Piel shares her collection of whimsical creatures in the Second Floor Gallery at Newton City Hall. Now through September 30th view the work of a local Newton artist’s Menagerie.
