*In September, The Scandinavian Cultural Center featured a major motion picture screening of Hilma. Everyone was so fascinated by this documentary that the SCC decided to take a deeper look with Beyond the Visible – Hilma Af Klint on Saturday, October 21st at 1:00 p.m. The first abstract artist was a woman: misjudged and concealed, Hilma af Klint rocks the art world with her mind-blowing oeuvre. Learn more about her as, “the biggest discovery that is attracting millions of fans worldwide.”
*On Saturday, October 21st at 7:00 pm, please join Historic Newton for the premiere of “An Uncommon Education: The Allen School,” a 40-minute documentary film that highlights the educators, students, and legacy of the West Newton English and Classical School, better known as the Allen School (1854-1900). Enjoy a cocktail reception and hear from the film’s creators during a live panel discussion at The Allen Center, the historic homestead of Nathaniel Topliff Allen lovingly renovated into a Center for Arts and Culture in Newton. *Newton Baroque presents From the Würzburg Residence a concert on Saturday, October 21st at 7:30 pm at Second Church in Newton. These Sonatas for Cello, Oboe, and Keyboard by Giovanni Platti are performed by Alison Gangler – Oboe, Sarah Freiberg Ellison – Cello, and Andrus Madsen – Keyboard. *The First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton will host a UU Choral Concert on Sunday, October 22nd at 3:00 p.m. as part of the congregation’s celebration of its 175th birthday. There will be a free public concert at 3 pm, followed by a reception. The event will include musical numbers by several UU choirs and communal singing of hymns from the history of the congregation. The concert will conclude with the combined choir singing several glorious choral works together.
