*On Friday, August 16th at 6:00 pm, The Hyde Community Center hosts its annual Hyde Summer Series featuring family-friendly concerts, movies, theater productions, and cultural celebrations. The community is invited to attend this wide range of events at the Hyde Bandstand. Listen to the Boston-based drum and guitar duo, Jabbering Trout at 6 pm followed at sunset by the family-favorite déjà vu flick, “Groundhog Day. *On Saturday, August 17th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, join Newton Community Pride and The Hyde Community Center Bandstand to celebrate India Day. This annual, free, family-friendly event features Bollywood dance and music, cultural performances, a variety of vendors, and face painting. Celebrate Indian heritage and culture, and enjoy Indian delicacies from local food vendors. All are welcome!
*On Wednesday, August 21 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, The Allen Center presents Lunchtime Pop-Ups on the Patio with exclusive lunch options, children’s art activities, and market shopping. The vendors will be a variety of women-owned businesses, neighboring retail shops, and other local sellers including two new entries on Newton’s food scene — Hungry Ninja (popular Vegan Sushi Salad Bowls) and NaisLee Catering (crowd-pleasing summery lunch menu). Pop-up shops of local women-owned businesses will offer bouquets of field-grown flowers, home accents, gifts, and women’s clothing. Use this link to review lunch menus and order in advance, to help restaurants gauge and meet demand. Save the date for next Wednesday, August 28th for a family-focused Pop-Up event with kids’ activities and lunch available from the new restaurant, Ninebark.
*Celebrate Newton Applications are Now Open! Vendors are welcome to apply by the deadline Monday, September 9th, 2024. This year the event will take place on Sunday, December 8th from 10 am – 4:00 pm. The Newton Cultural Alliance is looking for 50 arts-related exhibitors to sell their unique handmade items. Exhibitors connected to Newton are prioritized along with creators who show exemplary artistry. The event draws approximately 900 attendees from the area and is beloved by all for its high-quality work and festive live music.
