5 Things To Do This Week – 9/9/20

Newton Cultural Alliance highlights virtual arts & culture things to do.

NCA is keeping you connected with each other and with your favorite local arts and culture organizations. 

 

*Historic Newton presents Great Inventions: A Virtual Walking Tour on Wednesday, September 9th at 5:00 PM.  Find out who invented the microwave oven, the flat-bottomed paper bag, a bread machine, and many more items both useful and fanciful at our tour focusing on the lives of clever individuals whose final resting place is at Newton Cemetery. Suggested donation is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Click here to register.

*The All Newton Music School will begin a new online class for kids ages 5-10. Broadway Bound will begin on September 10th (ages 8-10) and September 12th (ages 5-7) and will run until January. Actors will spend the semester creating and exploring imaginative characters, learning choreography, and proper singing technique with director, composer, and playwright Kelvyn Koning; an experienced musical theatre educator. *Join Pro Arte for their final Summer Salon Series concert on Thursday, September 10th at 7:00 PM on Facebook Live. This week, the program will feature works by Mozart, Milhaud, Grainger, and Owens. Suggested donation is $25. Click here to donate and access the link.

*New Art Center begins its new semester of online art classes on Monday, September 14th. These classes include “Watercolor Explorations,” “Acrylic and Oil Painting,” and many more. Times and prices vary for each course. Click here for the full list of upcoming classes.

*Join the Newton Free Library on Monday, September 14th, at 7:00 PM, for a discussion with Megan Margulies, author of My Captain America: A Granddaughter’s Memoir of a Legendary Comic Book Artist. Marguiles’ new coming-of-age memoir paints an intimate portrait of the relationship she had with her beloved grandfather Joe Simon, cartoonist and co-creator of Captain America.
