*On Wednesday, June 2nd at 7:00 p.m. the Newton Free Library will host Shipwrecks of Cape Cod: Stories of Tragedy & Triumph, a virtual book lecture by historian Don Wilding. Join this award-winning writer and editor for a look back at some of the 3,000 disasters along Cape Cod’s 40-mile stretch of beach. From the 1626 stranding of the Sparrow Hawk to the Eldia in 1984 it’s been said that if all the wrecks were raised, one could walk from Provincetown to Chatham without getting their feet wet. *The New Art Center offers two Glass Fusing Workshops with instructor Michel L’Huillierwith on Friday, June 4th. At 10:00 a.m. make a Sushi Set while learning the basics of glass fusing techniques. Play with colored glass pieces, glass powders and frits, stringers and glass beads to make amazing showpieces that include 2 dishes and a server plate. If you prefer something wearable try the 2:00 p.m. Glass Mosaic Jewelry class that will use a wide selection of pre-cut colored glass pieces, beads, iridized and dichroic glass to create mini mosaics inside a necklace pendant. *Starting Saturday, June 5th through July 11th, The New Rep Theater presents Listen to Sipu by Morgan (Mwalim) J. Peters and directed by Jaime Carrillo, a work that illuminates Watertown’s Indigenous history with a moving tour that transports you, both literally and figuratively. Located outdoors at the Commander’s Mansion, Listen to Sipu captivates with a powerful story of a quick-witted Indigenous woman who’s more than willing to correct misinformation when she hears it. Sipu is ready to step in and set the record straight, but will people choose to listen? Step in here to reserve your tickets.
*Join the Scandinavian Center on Saturday, June 5th at 1:00 p.m. for Live and In-Person: Oskar Stenmark. Oskar and Alex Pryrodny met in NYC in 2014 and formed a strong bond over improvisation, jazz and folk music. Now, they are finally taking their artistic collaboration to a new level by performing live classical music, paying homage to Scandinavian composers such as Grieg, Stenhammar, Sibelius and Nielsen. The concert will be on the front lawn of the Scandinavian Center and costs $15 for a single ticket, $45 for family tickets and $7 for SCC members. Get your tickets to hear Oskar live again.
