NCA is keeping you connected with each other and with your favorite local arts and culture organizations.

*Gone Fishin’ by Dylan MacLeod, is now on view in the Main Hall of the Newton Free Library through July 30th.  This collection of landscapes and seascapes was drawn by award-winning Massachusetts based artist Dylan MacLeod in the years 2018 to 2021. From stretched mountainsides to X-ray fish, from deep sea to the swamplands, this is a fishing trip that someone could only dream of.  Those of us who have Gone Fishin’ long enough to know, know that reel life can get pretty strange.  Whales will get stuck on the beach.  Bears will get stranded at sea.  Weird things happen.  Voyage information here.

*Join the New Art Center on Wednesday, July 7th at 4:30 p.m. for a conversation with artists from the Women in Abstraction exhibition.  Destiny Palmer will host several artist talks from the in-person and virtual galleries. Each conversation centers on a theme related to the artist’s works. On July 7th, Destiny will discuss Gravity: Relationship of Materials to the Wall.  Join Destiny as she speaks virtually with artists Loretta Park, Cortney Stock, Ecco Aqui, and Diana Puglisi.  Register here for some gravity talk or to access the virtual art gallery. 

*Visit the Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts on July 10th and 11th at three NCA member venues, our very own Allen Center for Arts and Culture, as well as member venues The Suzuki School of Newton and the Hyde Community Center Bandstand.  The event runs throughout the two days with over 20 performances including musicians, singers, bands, poets, and storytellers presenting across the gamut of genres and styles.  NCA member performers also include Newton Baroque, Newton Nomadic Theater, and Pro Arte Quartet.  Check out the whole festival line up here.

*The Newton Free Library hosts a lecture with Astrophysicist Scott Kenyon on Tuesday, July 13th at 7:00 p.m. with Exploring the Universe Part 1: Pluto Strikes Back. Join a virtual discussion about Pluto – the outcast – and only binary planet in the Solar System. Dr. Kenyon will guide a tour of the moons of Pluto and show how this system formed early in the history of the Solar System. This is part one of a two-part series with Scott J.
