Newton Free Library presents: Twisted Sisters – Killer Hurricanes of the 1950s
August 30, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join Eamon McCarthy Earls for a wild ride as he dives into the history of the Twisted Sisters, four storms – Carol, Edna, Connie and Diane – that hammered New England and the Northeast all in a period of 12 months during the 1950s. These storms brought devastating winds, pounding waves, record tidal surges and floods of nearly Biblical proportions! Today, despite the massive seawalls and flood control projects built in the wake of the Twisted Sisters, the question is, will it happen again?
Eamon McCarthy Earls is an author of multiple books on regional history. He studied geology and history at UMASS-Amherst, served for three years as a Town Council member in his hometown of Franklin, Massachusetts, and is now completing a law degree at George Mason University in Arlington, Virginia.
