*This Friday, March 3rd at 6:30 pm All Newton Music School jams at the Rock-Away Cafe featuring the talented band and jazz faculty collaborating on jazz, rock, blues, and popular singer-songwriter selections. Then check out Forces of Nature on Sunday, March 5th at 2:00 pm another faculty recital with Rebecca Hartka and Barbara Lysakowski. From the thundering storms across the fjords in the Grieg Sonata, a nightscape in Boulanger, to Mendelssohn’s sparkling references to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this program captures the wild diversity of the natural world as seen through the eyes of these 19th and early 20th century composers. *The Scandinavian Cultural Center screens the film Band on Saturday, March 4th at 1:00 pm. Band is a comedy of failures, seen through the eyes of three women of “The Post Performance Blues Band” who give themselves only one year to finally become pop stars or quit forever. *On Saturday, March 4 at 7:30 pm Newton Baroque presents A Parisian Salon 1715: The Salon By Which All Other Salons Measure Themselves. Cantatas by Nicolas Bernier and Michel Pignolet de Montéclair as well as the celebrated Sonnerie de Sainte Genevieve du Mont de Paris by Marin Marias. Find tickets and more for the Salon here.

*Celebrate Spring with the Holi Festival of Colors on Sunday, March 5th at 12:00 pm. The New Art Center hosts another fantastic Community Cultural Day this weekend. Join in on Holi the Festival of Colors traditionally celebrated in India to welcome Spring. The event’s conclusion includes outdoor color play where you become the canvas. *Journey through time with Historic Newton on Sunday, March 5th at 3:00 pm with a virtual discussion about Route 9. From its start in 1810 as a toll road from Brookline to Worcester, Route 9 has undergone many transformations to become the bustling roadway that we know today. Follow along with Route 9: A Journey Through Time as it takes you through its development, from toll houses and street cars to shopping malls and roadside entertainment.
