*The Allen Center weekend kicks off with the long-awaited Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 17th from 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm. Join the NCA to honor Kay Khan and The Village Bank for all they do for Arts & Culture in Newton. Tickets are available here for the party of the year. Then on Monday, June 19th at 4:00 pm the NCA honors Juneteenth with the program, Forever Free by The Cherry Street Players. Led by Artist in Residence Allison Yoshie Eldredge this “Classical With A Twist” program will play the works of Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Scott Joplin, and W. Grant Still. This hybrid program of live and recorded performances on the Steinway Spirio Piano recognizes legendary Black Jazz Musicians and their influence on all genres of music. *Newton Baroque performs again at Second Church in Newton with Intentionally Unpremeditated: Blurring the Boundaries Between Written and Unscripted. On Saturday, June 17th at 7:30 pm, Jesse Irons joins Andrus Madsen on harpsichord to improvise violin into and out of written works, in addition to offering several completely improvised musical experiences. *On Sunday, June 17 & 18 at 7:00 pm, The Highland Glee Club presents Love-In 2023. Along with the rock band Firefly, HGC will be singing songs from the 1960s. These will include music from The Beatles, Beach Boys, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and much more. This is an outdoor concert, so bring a chair and get ready to get groovy.

* The Hyde Community Center hosts Summer In the Highlands an outdoor family concert and movie series on Friday nights featuring local bands and family-friendly films. These free events held in the Hyde Playground on the Hyde Community Center bandstand showcase a myriad of NCA Member Organizations and draw hundreds of local families. Next up on the schedule Friday, June 16th at 6:00 p.m. is a concert with “Rock and Soul Review” followed by the film “Puss and Boots Last Wish.”  Then on Saturday & Sunday, June 17th & 18th at 7:00 p.m. the Highland Glee Club performs their Love-In 23.
