*On Friday, October 4, 7:00 pm, Sheffield Chamber Players open Season 11 at The Allen Center with an intimate chamber music performance, Open Arms, Open Hearts. This chamber concert is comprised of two works—written almost 200 years apart and on different continents— that tap the deepest corners of your soul while lifting you out of the everyday and into the sublime. *On Sunday, October 6th at 3:00 pm The Classical with a Twist series kicks off the 2024-25 season with a relevant and inspiring concert from Cherry Street Music – Champions for Change. The event at The Allen Center features music honoring musical giant and staunch advocate of human rights, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich. This stirring concert will include music performed by Artist-in-Residence and Cherry Street Music Director- Allison Eldredge, cello; with Max Levinson, piano; and Andres Guerra, guitar. *The Con Brio Sunday Brunch Club kicks off on Sunday, October 6th at 10:00 am at All Newton Music School. Start the season with this delightful Sunday “Brunch” Club hosted by violist Scott Woolweaver, where familiar tunes take center stage. Scott has curated a program inspired by the timeless themes from Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky, and more. *It’s happening! This Sunday, October 6th from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Historic Newton’s annual fall festival Hayfest, a free family-friendly day of fall fun. Travel back and explore life in 19th century Newton, featuring: apple cider pressing, basket weaving, butter making, candle dipping, corn husk doll crafting, naturally dyeing cloth, games, fiddle music by Karen Burciaga, raffle prizes, and refreshments. The NCA welcomes arts supporters, advocates, and community change-makers for a candidate forum at The Allen Center as part of Create The Vote 2024. Moderated by Kay Khan and hosted in collaboration with New Art Center and MASSCreative, this forum brings together candidates from the 11th & 12th Middlesex State House Districts as an opportunity to participate in discussions to help ensure that the arts remain a vital part of the policy conversation.
