NCA highlights virtual arts & culture things to do
NCA is keeping you connected virtually with each other and with your favorite local arts and culture organizations. Many more virtual events on our calendar.
*Boston Ballet School presents its Virtual Adult Elementary/Intermediate Open Ballet class on Thursday, July 2, at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. This is a more challenging class for students who have completed Beginner or have had at least two to three years of prior ballet experience. Barre work includes balances in all positions, turning, and port de bras. Centre work includes the use of the body directions in combinations, with the beginnings of grand allegro (large traveling jumps). More complex combinations of steps, and classes are taught at a faster pace. Open ballet classes are for adults ages 16+ and classes are offered on a drop-in basis for $10/class. *Join Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston this Thursday, July 2nd at 7:00 p.m. for the first concert in their new virtual Summer Salon Series, streaming live on their Facebook page. This marks the first time that Pro Arte has continued these chamber music concerts into the summer months, and they are pleased to be able to share with you a program featuring music spanning multiple centuries and styles. *Newton Free Library presents Teen Zoom Poetry on Monday, July 6, at 7:00 p.m. Write your physical distancing blues away with Newton Free Library’s Teen Zoom Poetry Group with James & Jean. During this time, you’ll be writing poems based on fun prompts; have your keyboards, pencils, and paper handy! Registration is required to receive the Zoom link for this event. Click here. *New Art Center is offering an online Photoshop class from Tuesday, July 7, through Tuesday, August 4, from1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. Explore the basics tools and manipulation methods of Adobe Photoshop in this Zoom class. Learn to finely edit digital images, using both your own photos as well as found images. Learn to swap backgrounds, add dynamic text, manipulate faces, enhance digital images, and create a mini planet using your landscape photos. *Join Suzuki School of Newton on Thursday, July 9, at 6:00 p.m. for the first virtual concert of their Summer Porch Concert Series! This performance will be on Facebook Live and will feature the roots-infused contemporary folk duo Crowes Pasture, broadcasting live from Suzuki’s front porch.
