Newton Free Library presents Lesbian Life in Boston: 1910-1920

June 9, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

What was it like to be a lesbian in a world that was not ready to deal with differences? How did lesbians deal with isolation and ostracism? And what was it like to live through the years when men fought to keep women from having the right to vote? Author, Ellen Levy, will speak to these experiences in an interactive program that is based on the extensive research she did for her historic novel series.

Ellen Levy’s books, Romance at Stonegate, Struggles in a Boston Marriage and Chosen Family reflect her passion as a Lesbian and a Jew in researching and writing about the struggles Lesbian women in the early 1900s faced. From the suffrage movement to immigration of Eastern European Jews and the creation of settlement houses, her novels bring to light this important and often overlooked part of the history of the women’s movement.

Registration for this program will end two hours before the start time. The login information will be sent just after registration closes. Please be sure to check your spam folder in case it lands there.
