New Things To Do This Week #6
NCA highlights arts & culture things to do online!
NCA is keeping you connected virtually with local arts and culture organizations you love, as well as introducing you to enriching online opportunities. Many more online events on our calendar. Have a safe and healthy week!
*Suzuki School of Newton presents its Suzuki Prep Online Sessions on Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. beginning May 5 and running through June 9. Suzuki Prep is Suzuki’s popular group music class for children ages 0 to 4. Students will sing, move to music, and perform pre-instrumental Suzuki activities from the comfort of their own home, guided by an accompanying adult caregiver and their trained Suzuki teachers. Classes are 60-minutes long and are limited to 12 students. Register early to reserve your spot! Families will receive a Zoom link and password for the class upon registration. Cost is $190 + $25 registration fee for the 6 sessions. Register here. More info at suzukinewton.org.
*Newton Theatre Company is proud to introduce its first Radio Hour: “Sorry, Wrong Number” on Thursday, April 23, at 8:00 p.m. NTC’s Radio Hour Series will feature a variety of one-act plays performed live over Zoom. They will also teach you how to make a themed cocktail before each production that you can enjoy during the show–what better way to spend an evening inside? “Sorry, Wrong Number” is a classic noir thriller–when an isolated woman accidentally overhears two people plotting a murder over the phone, she must try and stop the crime before it occurs. FREE. Register to view the production here. More info about Newton Theatre Company at newtontheatrecompany.com.
*Zamir Chorale of Boston is pleased to share its weekly musical message of inspiration. This week’s virtual concert features Zamir singing Gerald Cohen’s “Adonai Ro’I (Psalm 23).” Enjoy this concert right now here. More info about Zamir Chorale of Boston at zamir.org.
*New Art Center is pleased to present the online class Exploring the Beauty of Letterforms on Thursday, April 30 and Thursday, May 7 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Learn to take a closer look at what we often take for granted: the letterforms all around us—shop signs, packaging labels, subway posters, newspaper/magazine headlines and ads, even the numerals on clocks. Each typeface has its own unique DNA that expresses the history of typography. In this two-session drawing workshop, you’ll design your own sign, create your own letterforms, play with shape, negative space, pattern, rhythm, embellishment, etc. No drawing skills necessary. Suitable for beginning artists and those with prior experience. Cost is $75. Register today here. More info about New Art Center at newartcenter.org.
*Newton Free Library presents a Virtual Peep Diorama Contest! Grab a package of Peeps and, using what you have at home, create a themed diorama. You’ll have until April 26 to submit your Peep Diorama. To enter, take a photo of your diorama and click here to submit. If you do not have a Google account to upload the image, submit your photo to newtonpublicservices@minlib.net. All submissions will be posted on the library’s Facebook page for voting after April 27. Winner gets bragging rights! There is no limit to the number of submissions. FREE and for all ages. More info at newtonfreelibrary.net.
