*Newton Free Library presents After Suffrage: A 20/20 Perspective on Women’s Rights on Wednesday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. in their Druker Auditorium, 330 Homer Street, Newton. Join author Barbara Berenson for a talk that will explore how women have fared politically and legally over the past century. Consider how women activists have built alliances, review some of the key developments over the past century, including a discussion of the campaign for the Equal Rights Amendment, and discuss the historical connections between women who opposed suffrage and those who oppose women’s rights today. *New Art Center presents a Personal Geometry Weekend Workshop – Textile Collage on Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3, from 1:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at their location at 61 Washington Park, Newton. In this three-day workshop, explore dyeing lengths of silk organza for textile collage and silk thread for hand stitching. You will focus on designing with a confined palette of solid colors in cotton, linen, and silk (out of your stash). Through repetition and layering of simple geometric forms (circles, squares, triangles), you will develop a graphic poem in fabrics. Workshop includes machine and hand stitching. Cost is $290.
