Newton Free Library and Historic Newton present: Walk with Me: A Biography of Fannie Lou Hamer

March 9, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In honor of Women’s History Month, bestselling author, Dr. Kate Clifford Larson, will speak about her book, Walk with Me: A Biography of Fannie Lou Hamer. Born into the poverty and racism of the Mississippi Delta, Fannie Lou Hamer went on to become a civil rights leader, women’s rights activist, and the voice of the unheard. She became the conscience of our nation as she led the fight for freedom and equality during the ‘60s and ‘70s. This program is part of the ongoing Overdue: Confronting Race and Racism in Newton series. This program is co-sponsored by Historic Newton.

Dr. Kate Clifford Larson is the author of Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman, Portrait of an American Hero; Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter and The Assassin’s Accomplice: Mary Surratt and the Plot to Kill Abraham Lincoln. She has consulted on feature film scripts, documentaries, museum exhibits, public history initiatives, and numerous publications. She has appeared on CBS Sunday Morning, the BBC, PBS, C-Span, and NPR.
